Join us at the West Park Mall for a FREE family event. We will be making crafts, wrapping books (they make great gifts!!) and enjoying some healthy treats. Event starts at 3pm and finishes at 5.30pm. Thursday December 15! See you there.
We are hosting another free family literacy event at the Library. Join us at our Storytelling for kids! We will be at the Quesnel Library on Tuesday November 29 from 3 - 4.15. This event is aimed at kids from Kindergarten to Grade 5..parents and caregivers are encouraged to stay and participate!
The grand opening of our used bookstore was held on June 1, 2016, and we had a lot of people come out to help us celebrate! Mitch and Tammy Vik from K-Max - who donated their used book inventory to LQS - came to cut the cake AND the ribbon; Mayor Bob Simpson arrived on his bike (it was during Bike to Work Week, after all) to issue congratulations; and all of our Board were present to welcome guests and sell a few books!
The bookstore is now officially open from Tuesdays to Fridays, 10-4. We are accepting gently used books in most categories. Everyone is welcome! We are happy to announce the opening of our "new" Used Bookstore. Housed within Literacy Quesnel's new space (same building, but street front so it's easier to get to us) we are open for business from Tuesday - Friday 10am - 2pm. K-Max Video & Games very generously donated their entire collection so we could continue to offer this great service to the community. Come and in say hello and browse our books! We are going to honour the credit system in place by K-Max so if you have book credits you can still use them. We accept paper back, adult fiction. All books are $2 each. Here are some photos of the renovations..
Family Literacy Day is January 27 and we are celebrating in Quesnel by offering you some free family fun at the Museum. Visit us at the Museum between 3 - 4.30 pm and enjoy stories, games, crafts, a treasure hunt and more. This is open to all ages. Children must be with an adult. Take our family literacy challenge and enter to win a gift certificate from Books & Company. Details at the event!
Recently we read about the Icelandic tradition of Jolobokaflod, or the "Christmas Book Flood" that happens in Iceland. Every year, people in Iceland give books to friends and loved ones on December 24, then spend most of the night reading! We thought we would put a local spin on this tradition and open our office to make it possible for our locals to come and get a book to read over the Christmas break. A very generous reader just gave us 100 or more novels in beautiful condition...a wide range of genres and authors, so we would like to share these with the community.
On Tuesday December 22 from 5 - 7pm and on Wednesday December 23 from 6 - 8pm we will open the office so you can come and select a book to keep and read over Christmas. Join us for tea or coffee and come and get a book! Our office is room 206 at 488 McLean Street - main floor of the Child Development Centre. Join us this week for some special presentations by author and artist Cybele Young. The Vancouver Writers Festival has sponsored Cybele's trip to Quesnel and we are very proud to be hosting her. Join us at the library on Wednesday October 28 from 4-5pm or from 6.30-7.30pm for presentations and readings. Or come to Books and Company's new location at 371 Reid Street from 4-5pm to meet Cybele in person and hear her read from one of her books. Call us at 778-414-9119 if you need more information.
